"Sign language was recognised in an ordinance (Ordonanta de Urgenta nr. 102 din 29 iunie 1999) which was then replaced with the law from 2002 (Legea nr. 519/2002). It speaks of limbajul mimico-gestual (sign langauge), not specifically mentioning Romanian Sign Language (Art 15(1)): (1) At the date of entry of this emergency ordinance, sign language [...] is officially recognised.
Additionally, it grants Deaf people the right to use sign language in contact with public institutions."
